A Wet Start to your Weekend

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WGGB) — We are waking up to rain throughout the area this morning but the good news is the day will not be a washout. The rain will continue until later on this morning and the afternoon should be mainly dry with some scattered pockets of drizzle or a shower. Some breaks of sun may appear this afternoon but temperatures today will only make it into the low to mid 50s.

As a vigorous area of upper-level energy associated with this storm system tracks over us Saturday evening and night, periods of rain or showers will return. From early evening Saturday until the pre-dawn Sunday some showers can be expected. A heavier shower or two is possible and even a rumble of thunder. Also, as colder air rushes in behind this pool of energy late Saturday night, some of the rain showers may mix with or change over to some sleet or wet snow showers in northern areas. A light, slushy accumulation is even possible in elevated areas north of Route 2!
Sunday should be mainly dry except for an isolated pop-up sprinkle or quick shower during the day. Skies will start off mostly cloudy but a breeze will pick up during the day and drier air will wrap in, allowing for some gradual afternoon clearing. Still, temperatures Sunday stay in the unseasonably cool 50s once again.

Monday will be milder and mostly sunny before we start a potentially long, cool and damp spell by the middle of next week!

Have a great day,
Rick Sluben & Don Maher
