Severe Weather Moves East
SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WGGB) A slow-moving, powerful storm system will make its way across the country today bringing severe weather with tornadoes to parts of the country. Yesterday it was Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas, Louisiana and especially Oklahoma that got rocked with tornadoes.
Up to 31 tornadoes were reported along with a death toll into the teens, that continues to rise. The ingredients for more severe weather will be there again today. This time the target area will shift east into Mississippi, Tennessee and Alabama. However the severe threat also extends all the way north into Illinois just south of Chicago.
A strong southerly, moist flow out of the Gulf combined with a strong jet stream (fast river of air high in the sky – 30,000 plus feet) out of the west will create the lift and shear (winds changing with height) that will cause these tornadoes to develop and track over a large swath of land.
The severe threat will continue tomorrow across southeastern parts of the country.
Have a great day! Dan Brown
