More Severe Weather for Parts of the Country Today

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WGGB) –  A slow moving, complex weather system continues to spin across the Ohio River Valley today, with more severe weather expected. The focus of severe weather will take place out ahead of this systems associated cold front, across the deep south. However, the chance for thunderstorms and even tornadoes extends all the way up into the Great Lake states as well.

Several tornadoes blew through Mississippi and Alabama yesterday, last night and into this morning. An EF2 or EF3 tornado ripped through Tupelo, Mississippi a town of 35,000 people, yesterday causing massive damage. Eight people were killed in Mississippi.

This storm will spin into the northeast over the next 48 hours eventually bringing western Mass. some heavy rain. We are not going to see any severe weather however an embedded thunderstorm late Wednesday into Thursday morning is not out of the question. The biggest concern with this storm for us will be the treat of street and river and stream flooding. Most area will pick up 1-2″ of rain with the bulk of the rain holding off until Wednesday and Thursday.
