Local Baseball Team Changes Its Name

blue soxHOLYOKE, Mass. (WGGB) – Effective immediately, the Holyoke Blue Sox has a new name.

From here on out, the team wants to be known as the Valley Blue Sox.

The club hopes their new name will be more inclusive to fans all over the Pioneer Valley and bring more people into Holyoke to support the team.

“This is one of the largest market in the United States without a professional team so you know, to have the opportunity to build something up like this and give back to the community at the same time and so something that I’m passionate about at the same time, it’s a great opportunity,” said Hunter Golden, Valley Blue Sox General Manager.

The 2014 season will represent the Blue Sox 7th season in the Pioneer Valley. The team plays at MacKenzie Stadium in Holyoke.

The Blue Sox season kicks off on June 5 in Holyoke against the Vermont Mountaineers.

The Sox will also play host to the 2014 New England Collegiate Baseball League (NECBL) All-Star game on July 20.
