Two Separate Accidents Snar Traffic on I-91 in Holyoke

HOLYOKE, Mass. (WGGB)  – Emergency crews had to respond to 2 separate crashes Thursday morning within a half-hour of each other on I-91 Southbound in Holyoke.

According to State Police Trooper Amy MacLean, the first crash happened at about 7:40 a.m. and the second shortly after 8:00 a.m.   Both occurred between Exit 17 and Exit 16 and involved 3 vehicles each, so a total of six cars crashed this morning in that area.

Trooper MacLean says two people were injured in the second accident and had to be transported to Holyoke Medical Center.  Their injuries are not believed to be life threatening.

Due to the accidents traffic during the morning commute got backed up for over a mile until crews were able to get the scene cleared up around 9:30 a.m.

No word yet on what caused the crashes to occur, but at the time rain was falling and the road conditions were wet.

The two accidents remain under investigation by police.

Accidents do not happen, they are caused. This is a collision that could and should been avoided. Some mistakes occur when a driver becomes distracted, perhaps by a cell phone call or a spilled cup of coffee. As parents, we must take precautions to protect our child from danger. So I thought of looking up for safety application that would do so, and luckily, I read an article with cool safety application that alerts you when your kids are in trouble and can even get escalated to the nearest 911 with just a click.
