Gas Line Break Forces Evacuations in Easthampton

EASTHAMPTON, Mass. (WGGB) — A ruptured gas line forced more than three dozen people to be evacuated for a time Friday afternoon.

Columbia Gas spokesperson Andrea Luppi says that around 12:20 p.m. Friday, the company was called to the Eastworks Building on Pleasant Street after a Water Department crew reportedly hit a gas line.

Forty-two people were evacuated from three buildings. Everyone was allowed back in about 20 minutes later.

Crews from Columbia Gas are currently on-scene working to make repairs, which are expected to take a few hours.
