Sun/Cloud Mix with a Shower Possible Today
SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WGGB) — We are waking up to sunshine and a few clouds out there this morning. High above us in the atmosphere, weak disturbances will move through a broader flow of cool, unstable air aloft. During spring with the warm, strong sunshine, this situation usually yields a bright and dry morning followed by billowing clouds that blossom into showers during the mid-day and afternoon hours. If the disturbance moving through has enough energy with it then a few of the showers can become thunder showers.
Some of the data has another disturbance passing through overnight Saturday night and could be strong enough to track a few showers and even a storm through late at night.
On Sunday, a much more vigorous piece of upper-level energy breaks off from southern Canada and tracks through New England. In fact, it eventually generates a storm off the New England coastline by Sunday night. After some morning sun again, Sunday’s showers during the afternoon and evening will be more widespread and have a better chance of becoming thunder showers in spots. A few isolated storms will have some hail and high winds too – byproducts of the very chilly air that will be above us.
As this weather disturbance moves through and then pulls away later Sunday, it gets windy around here Sunday and stays blustery Sunday night into Monday morning as cooler air rushes in!
Have a great weekend!
