Flocks of Flamingos Popping Up for a Good Cause
BELCHERTOWN, Mass. (WGGB)- There was a strange sight in one South Hadley yard this afternoon, Pink flamingos. It’s a humorous stunt to raise money for Belchertown Day School.
Those living in Belchertown and surrounding communities are invited to participate by sending the flock to a friend’s lawn for a donation of $15.
Proceeds go to building a strong curriculum for the nonprofit Childcare Center. The staff and students are the masterminds of the flamingo flocking frenzy. A crew delivers 12-15 flamingos during the night hours.
“If they know about it they think it’s cool, if they’ve never heard about it they are confused,” says Heidi Gutekenst of Belchertown Day School.
“Once I saw the sign “You’ve been flocked, I was like ohhh they got us,” says Christina Marra. Her house was one targeted for the fundraiser. She plans to pay it forward, give the donation, and send the flamingos on to another home.
Homeowners that find the flamingos in their yard have the choice to pass them on to another home. Either way they will be removed within 24 hours.
Organizers say it’s a good-hearted and memorable fundraiser that most enjoy.
