SHIRLEY, Mass. (AP) — State prisons officials say six workers and one inmate were taken to a hospital for treatment after a disturbance at the Souza-Baranowski Correctional Center in Shirley.

A Department of Correction spokesman says none of the injuries is considered life threatening.

The disturbance started at about 1 p.m. Wednesday when an inmate barricaded himself in a room with a staff member.

The maximum security prison deployed an emergency response team and “resolved the incident using less-than-lethal and chemical responses.”

No names were released.
