Push On in Mass. for Genetic Food Labels

By BOB SALSBERG, Associated Press

BOSTON (AP) — Supporters of an effort to require labels on food containing genetically modified ingredients say they now have the support of a majority of members in both the House and Senate in Massachusetts.

But the backers also acknowledged on Wednesday that they have yet to gain commitments from key legislative leaders, meaning there’s no guarantee that the measure will come up for a vote before the session ends on July 31.

If the bill was approved, it would only take effect if several other states in the Northeast took action on genetically modified labeling. So far, Connecticut and Maine have passed similar laws.

Supporters say the labels would allow consumers to make informed choices about what they eat.

The food industry says genetically modified ingredients are safe and opposes mandatory labeling.

Do it! GMO’s can cause health problems and we need to know what to avoid.

Yep and don’t forget you will be paying more and getting less. Enjoy the good life because with food prices and energy prices the good times are over.

Food prices are at an all time low in the United States due to industrial agriculture and industrial food processing. The price of food over the past 20 years has gotten so low, most food isn’t retailed for the actual production costs. These are facts. The reason why the prices have been so low is because of artificial ingredients, chemical additives, preservatives etc. Organic food actually reflects the cost of production. We have become so spoiled and lazy in this country when it comes to food. We spend less per household on food now in America than compared to any other time in history. Also for the record, GMOs do NOT bring food prices down. At all. To believe that is to believe big foods propoganda.

Apparently you haven’t bought any food in the last 20 years. I never though anyone could lie better than Obama. You have no clue.

      • oooooooo

As usual you have proven yourself to be a total liar, idiot, and troll. The Republicans have a job for as good a liar as you.

      • oooooooo

I retract that, you really are just an Ahole.

If they are so safe, as they say, why are they opposed to labeling GMO foods?
