ZipCar Launches Service in Holyoke

HOLYOKE, Mass. (WGGB) — There’s a new and unique way to zip around Holyoke and the Valley.

Mayor Alex Morse announced the city’s partnership with ZipCar Thursday.

All you have to do is pay $25 and pay rates depending on which car you use and for how long.

You simply log online and sign up to use the car when it’s available and return it when you’re done.

“It’s a very simple solution from getting to point A to point B, when other methods, whether it be the bus or some of the other alternatives out here, aren’t available,” explains Craig Burns with ZipCar.

Holyoke will have two cars to begin the program, a Ford Focus hatchback and a Toyota Prius. They have a permanent location on Maple Street.

The cars will be available 24 hours a day, seven days a week,

WGGB encourages readers to share their thoughts and engage in healthy dialogue about the issues. Comments containing personal attacks, profanity, offensive language or advertising will be removed. Please use the report comment function for any posts you feel should be reviewed. Thank you.

Great idea! I can use that to pick up hookers in, so if I get caught they’ll confiscate my zipcar instead of my Neon.

Thas y the world is the way it is, ya cant be positive about anything, always negative comments, maybe if u have a car n its breaks down ull end up being the first one to use it..or use ur brain for something more useful other than negativity..just giving my opinion also.

I’m positive you never graduated high school.

Trust me, gangbangers, hookers, drug dealers, and the shootings have nothing to do with my negative attitude.

You seem to be the one full of negativity and saying that was negative. I see all that as positive for everyone. I think using it for hookers at $8.50 an hour is pretty creative use of his grey matter.

Just think of the uses in Holyoke for this wonderful tool. Buying, or dropping off drugs, picking up hookers, driving drunk, a get away car, or pretty much anything else illegal you want to do. Where do I sign up? LOL

  • mainspkr

do you guys really think that holyoke’s mayor or any politician cares if they use the car for drugs, hookers or whatever!? yeah right that’s more money for the economy. They can’t CAN BEAT THEM, so they JOIN THEM!! ; )

    • zipcum

Nobody suggested they did care. It is not their problem to watch over the Zipcar.

The mayor is glad to see it in the city. When he needs to anonymously slip out for a sack of bud he can use the Zipcar. No more making your drunk cousin use the mayorial car for that.

And trust me, you’ll ask for a refund. His legs are way too long for a zipcar backseat.
