Agawam J.V. Coach Facing Statutory Rape Charges

Police-Arrest2

AGAWAM, Mass. (WGGB) — An Agawam junior varsity coach has been charged with statutory rape.

Agawam Police Det. Sgt. Steven Grasso says that on June 4, the department’s detective bureau assisted the Hampden County District Attorney’s Special Victims Unit with an investigation, involving the Agawam High School J.V. girl’s volleyball coach.

That investigation led to the arrest of 24-year-old Michael Rash of Westfield, who Grasso says “the primary suspect in the investigation,” on two counts of statutory rape.

The Westfield District Court Clerk’s office says that Rash posted $1,000 bail following his arraignment on June 6. He was released on conditions including that he stay away from the victim, GPS monitoring, and abide by a curfew.

A pre-trial hearing is scheduled for July 3.

Calls to the Agawam Superintendent of Schools seeking comment have not yet been returned.
