3 Vie for Treasurer at Mass. Democratic Convention

POLITICS-DEMOCRATSWORCESTER, Mass. (AP) — The three Democratic candidates for state treasurer have made their pitches to delegates at the state convention in Worcester.

Former Brookline selectwoman Deborah Goldberg, state Sen. Barry Finegold of Andover and state Rep. Thomas Conroy of Wayland are vying to succeed Treasurer Steven Grossman, who is one of the five Democrats running for governor.

The candidates need to win at least 15 percent of the Democrats to qualify for the September primary.

Goldberg told the delegates she would use the treasurer’s office to combat social inequality and create a college savings fund for kindergarteners.

Finegold said he would divest state pension funds from fossil fuels and invest them in renewable energy companies.

Conroy said he would use school building funds to build classrooms for pre-kindergarten students.
