Holyoke Stabbing Suspect Appears in Court
HOLYOKE (WGGB) — A man accused of stabbing another man in Holyoke on Monday has appeared in court.
Holyoke Police have taken a suspect into custody who they believe is responsible for a stabbing that launched an investigation Monday afternoon.
Jose Morales, 22, of Holyoke pleaded not guilty to charges including assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, armed assault to murder, and possession of a Class A substance during his arraignment Tuesday in Holyoke District Court.
Morales was arrested around 10:00 p.m. Monday near the intersections of Ely and North East Streets after investigators say he allegedly stabbed a 26 year-old man in the chest near Center and Mosher Streets earlier in the day Monday.
That victim, whose name has not been released was rushed to Baystate Medical Center where he remains in critical condition.
Morales, who was reportedly out on bail at the time of his arrest on Thursday, was also allegedly found in possession of more than 40 bags of heroin at the time of his arrest.
Morales’s bail on that previous charge has been revoked. He was ordered held on $100,000 cash bail or $1 million surety on Monday’s charges and is due back in court on July 25.
