Northampton HS, Cooley Dickinson ready athletes for fall

NORTHAMPTON, Mass. (WGGB) — Northampton High School teamed with Cooley Dickinson Hospital’s rehabilitation services Wednesday night to prepare student athletes for the fall sports season.

The clinic offered screenings for the teens including strength, agility and flexibility training stations. The goal was to focus on areas of weakness for the students so they can get themselves better come the fall.

More importantly, it can prevent injury, so bringing awareness is crucial for assistant director of Cooley Dickinson Hospital’s rehabilitation services, Andrea Doubleday.

“As a physical and occupational therapist, that’s one therapist, that’s one of the things we like to do is we like to try to educate on injury prevention and not just treat kids when they’re injured,” Doubleday said.

That school also offered ImPACT concussion testing and will continue to do such beginning every Wednesday starting on July 9.
