Local Casino Job Training Courses Slowed with SJC Decision

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WGGB) — Local colleges have been in talks with MGM about workforce training. One of them is Springfield Technical Community College.

This summer, STCC launched culinary and hospitality programs to prepare students who want to work in a casino.

School officials say the program is a regional approach with casinos in surrounding states.

As for the gaming school, STCC will have the curriculum together. It’s just a matter of deciding when training should begin.

“This decision will have an impact on the speed of the scale up. We’ll continue to do work that we’ve been doing…and it will cause us to continue to plan for after a decision is made in November to be able to scale up as appropriate,” explains Robert LePage, Vice President of Workforce Training at STCC.
