Local Students Get Hands-On Lesson into Veterinary Life

HADLEY, Mass. (WGGB) — Students from the Pioneer Valley are volunteering three days to explore veterinary life of a farm.

These kids are getting a chance for hands on learning when it comes to horse care and horse first aid at UMass Amherst’s Hadley Farm.

The program allows kids who wouldn’t normally get a chance to work one on one with farm animals a reason to learn and understand them.

“We have some really great Morgans here that we’ve bread and they’re really great teaching horses, so once they get comfortable, they start asking really great questions and I think they leave with a really good sense of what it might be to be a vet,” explains Cassandra Uricchio, director of equine management.

The kids arrived on the farm yesterday and will conclude their trip tomorrow.
