Severe Weather Causes Power Outages Across Area


REGION (WGGB) — The severe weather moving through the area caused many to lose power Wednesday night.

As of 10:57 p.m., Western Mass. Electric is reporting just 898 customers without power.

In the Valley, some of the hardest hit communities were in Franklin County, including Gill, Shelburne and Montague. There are still 498 Northfield customers without power. Priscilla Ress, spokeswoman for WMECo told ABC 40 the power in downtown Greenfield was restored around 6:00 p.m. WMECo representatives are still working on restoring power to other communities.

To the west, in the Berkshires, customers in Lee and Pittsfield were without power for the majority of the evening and into the night.

National Grid is currently reporting only sporadic outages, in communities including Great Barrington, Stockbridge and West Stockbridge.
