Construction

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WGGB) — Work is set to begin on improvements to a busy Springfield intersection.

The Springfield Department of Public Works says that reconstruction work in the area of Sumner Avenue, Harkness Avenue, Allen Street, and Abbot Street will begin on Monday.

The project, which is being is being funded by MassDOT, will realign the intersection and replace outdated signals in an effort to improve traffic flow and relieve congestion in the area.

Motorists are being advised that there may be delays in the area because of the construction. However, access to businesses and roadways will remain open.

The project is expected to be completed in July 2015.
