‘Star-Spangled Springfield’ Postponed Due to Weather Concerns

SPRINGFIELD (WGGB) – The Star-Spangled Springfield Fireworks event, originally scheduled to be held on Friday, has been postponed until Saturday due to ongoing concerns over weather conditions.

Spirit of Springfield organizers had originally only cancelled the planned entertainment portion of the evening, with the fireworks to go off as scheduled. But as of 11p.m. Thursday, they had changed their minds, citing concerns over hazardous weather conditions in the wake of Hurricane Arthur, which is set to hit off the coast of Cape Cod Friday.

Springfield joins a number of local communities opting to postpone or cancel their 4th of July celebrations due to weather.

The festivities begin Saturday night at 7 o’clock, including food vendors and fun activities for the kids. The fireworks display will begin at 9:30 p.m off of the Memorial Bridge.
