Woman’s Body Recovered in Deerfield River

Deerfield River

DEERFIELD, Mass. (WGGB) — The search for a young woman who has been missing in the Deerfield River since Sunday has been called off.

This morning kayakers discovered a body in the Deerfield River in Deerfield and the Northwestern District Attorney’s Office confirms it is a woman’s body.

The discovery Tuesday was made around 6:30 a.m. near Deerfield Academy.

This comes at the same time that crews have been searching the Deerfield River for the missing woman in her 20s.   That woman went underwater near the Number 2 Hydro Plant Dam Sunday.

Mary Carey with the NWDA’s Office says, “In light of this discovery, it is not anticipated that the search will continue today for the swimmer who witnesses said was trapped by a whirlpool under a dam in the Deerfield River in Conway.”

Authorities have not been able to confirm if this is the body of that missing woman until an examination has been conducted by the Chief Medical Examiner’s Office.
