Push to Make Volleyball Massachusetts’ Official ‘Team” and Recreation Sport
BOSTON, Mass (WGGB) — Volleyball is one step closer to becoming Massachusetts’ official team and recreation sport. The Senate voted 39 to nothing in favor of the measure today. Westfield Senator Donald Humason says the bill now moves to the House, where Holyoke State Representative Aaron Vega is working for its passage. Volleyball was invented in Holyoke, which is also home to the sport’s hall of fame. Basketball is the state’s official sport. Volleyball would be the state’s official ‘team’ sport. Humason hopes the bill will be on the Governor’s desk for his signature by the end of the month, which is also the end of the formal legislative session.
