Springfield High School Students Learn About the Legal Field

kids legalSPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WGGB) – Just because it’s summer vacation doesn’t mean the learning stops for some local students. They are getting a leg-up on the legal field and it’s all for free.

40 students from Springfield high schools get the chance to take part in the program, called the “Springfield Summer Legal Institute.” It takes place at Western New England University.

The School of Law faculty teams up with members of  MassMutual’s legal department to give the kids lessons from the experts.

“The program is basically law camp for students. It’s a great program where they learn a bit about the profession, about trials, about what lawyers do, and they get to interact with judges and attorneys and professors and at the end they put on a trial of their own,” said Eric Gouvin, Dean of WNEU’s School of Law.

The students also get the opportunity to attend workshops on college readiness and business networking.
