Clean-up after Tree Falls onto West Springfield Home
WEST SPRINGFIELD, Mass (WGGB) — It was hard to miss the powerful thunderstorms that rolled through Western Mass Wednesday night. While the skies have cleared, one family in West Springfield is still cleaning up the damage.
“I mean, we have a tree going right through our roof, which is about 6 feet from where I was sleeping in our bedroom,” says Stephanie Moynihan who owns the home on Virginia Avenue.
Moynihan says she knew a storm was blowing in — still, she was determined to get some sleep. But last night, mother nature had other plans.
“I heard the loud bang and I shot up and my stepson ran in and was telling me about how there was a tree on the house,” says Moynihan.
A tree removal crew came to the home around 8 a.m. Thursday to start the clean-up process.
Moynihan and her family spent the night in a hotel after a building inspector deemed their home unsafe to enter. Today, they returned to take a look at the damage.
“The inspector had come out to the property last night,” says Moynihan. “They said that they were going to come contact us today.”
She adds, “We have an adjuster that’s supposed to come out early this morning to take a look at everything too.”
Until then, it’s a waiting game to see when they can go back inside, and how much the repair bill is going to cost.
“No clothes, can’t go back in the home,” says Moynihan. “Have to just sit it out and wait until we find out what we can do.”
She says she and her family just moved into the house a few months ago. They’re optimistic their homeowners insurance will cover some of the repair costs.
