Brake Failure Sends Tractor Trailer Up in Flames in Westfield

WESTFIELD TRUCK FIRE 2WESTFIELD (WGGB) — Reams of plastic and paper fueled a large fire in a tractor trailer in Westfield late Wednesday night.

The Westfield Police department says fire crews responded to Ampad Rd. at 11:19 p.m. to find flames taking over that truck in the parking lot of Prolamina, a packaging solutions company.

The truck driver says that the right rear brake of the trailer failed and began to heat up. That sparked a fire which fed on all of the paper inside the truck.WESTFIELD TRUCK FIRE

That driver was able to get out safely and no one was injured, but the fire continued to spread into the cab. Police say the driver tried to detach the cab from the trailer, but was unsuccessful.

The truck belongs to B&L Transports and Logistics, a company out of Indiana. They will be responsible for organizing a tow truck for the burned skeleton of the tractor trailer.
