BOSTON (AP) — The former MBTA bus driver who lost her license after she crashed her bus through a guardrail and left the front wheel hanging over the Massachusetts Turnpike wants her right to drive restored.

Shanna Shaw on Thursday asked the Board of Appeal for the Division of Insurance for her license back because she has a job offer that requires a vehicle to get to work, and so she can run errands and get to medical appointments.

At attorney for the Registry of Motor Vehicles argued against restoring her license, citing a history of “unsafe and irresponsible driving behavior.”

The board did not immediately rule.

The 42-year-old Shaw said a sneeze caused her to lose control on May 18, but investigators say she was holding a cellphone in violation of MBTA rules.
