One Person Dead after Armed Domestic Dispute in Ludlow

photo 2LUDLOW, Mass. (WGGB) — One man is dead after firing at least a dozen shots at a home in Ludlow.

According to Sergeant Dan Valades, a woman was at home with her two children and her niece at 24 Helena Street when her estranged husband began shooting at the home. The woman called 911 and barricaded the children and herself in a back room until police arrived. They were then evacuated through a back window.

The perpetrator is dead from what appears to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound. It’s not been confirmed whether he died before or after police arrived.

Ludlow was assisted by officers from Chicopee, Wilbraham and State Police. A crime scene unit will remain on scene for the next few hours as the investigation continues.

Police said the situation is under control, but Helena Street and Deroche Circle are closed tonight to most through traffic.
