Heat & Humidity Followed by Storms

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WGGB) – The heat and humidity are on today! It’s a classic late July day with hazy sunshine and temperatures near 90!

A cold front approaching western Mass along with all the heat and humidity in place will cause showers and storm to fire up! A few scattered showers and storms will start to develop over us by mid afternoon.  As this potent cold front approaches from the west, a broken or even solid line of thunderstorms will move through between 5-9 PM from west to east.  Some of these storms could have strong, gusty and even damaging winds as well as brief torrential rainfall that causes some localized flash flooding in areas of poor drainage. If you have plans to be outdoors this afternoon be ready to bring things in very quickly. Remember, if you see the tall, dark clouds building and certainly if you hear the thunder bring things inside!

Any storms will move to our east or dissipate after about 9-10 PM.  Lingering showers are possible overnight as the front slowly slips to our south and washes out.  The front will weaken to our south tomorrow but will still be close enough to bring some cloudiness and maybe a shower or two early.  Clouds will break to some sunshine. It will be much cooler tomorrow but still muggy to start the day. It will turn less humid as the day goes on.

High pressure builds in for Friday and the start of the weekend bringing sunshine and comfortable weather again!

Have a great afternoon!
