Man Arrested After Attempted Robbery Outside Walgreens in Chicopee

CHICOPEE, Mass. (WGGB) — Police have arrested a man after he allegedly tried to steal a purse Sunday afternoon in the parking lot of a Chicopee business.

Chicopee Police say that just after 3 p.m. Sunday, employees of the Walgreens on James Street called reporting that a man was in the parking lot, trying to steal a woman’s purse.

Those employees also reportedly told officers that two men were struggling and trying to stop the suspect, when the suspect allegedly pulled out a knife and broke away.

Officers were able to catch up with that suspect a short time later on Memorial Drive and take him into custody.

Police identify that suspect as Dylan Zych. He was arrested and is facing charges including two counts of Assault and Battery by Means of a Dangerous Weapon and Resisting Arrest.

Investigators also found that Zych reportedly had an outstanding warrant out on charges of Larceny from a person over 65, and Domestic Assault and Battery.

The female victim at Walgreens was treated at the scene by Chicopee paramedics.
