Two Men Arrested For Farm Stand Thefts(HADLEY, Mass.) (WGGB)–Two men are under arrest charged with stealing money from a local farm stand.
Last Friday thieves made off with money from an unstaffed farm stand owned by longtime farmer Joseph Czakowski by forcing the cash boxes lid open .
The theft surprised neighbors,” It is unfortunate to learn of such an incident, and it’s concerning while we know these acts of stealing take place it’s concerning,” says Nancy Craker-Yahman.
An alert neighbor saw the robbery occurring, as he did he called police and within an hour two suspects were under arrest.
Neighbors tell us that they look out for each other here,”We watch out for each other when Nancy goes away she’ll say I’m going for a week or so, my other neighbor will go away and if I see his garage door open we take care of it,” says Robert Wysocki.
In another part of town on East street , the Pipczynski farm stand was robbed last week.
Again cash taken from a container where people buy vegetables on the honor system,”It’s a surprise, it’s a shock, we don’t keep a whole lot of money in the can so we don’t think people would be desperate enough to steal from us but it happens and unfortunately it happened to us,” says Sarah Carey.
Police say it’s a good idea to lock their cash boxes and secure them to the farm stands to make it tough on any robber.
The two arrested were identified as 20-year old Zane Linehan of Easthampton and Ras Fire, formerly known as Daniel Bartusewich of Hadley.
They were charged in both farm stand robberies.
