Police Warn of a Phone Scam in Western Mass

ELongcruiserEAST LONGMEADOW, Mass (WGGB) — East Longmeadow police are warning people of a scam.

It’s the classic IRS scam with a twist.

A caller states you owe tax money and if you don’t pay, you will be arrested immediately.

One woman says she was called… but the scammers didn’t want cash.

They wanted her to pay in Visa gift cards — $5,600 worth.

Police say it appears the woman was being followed and kept on the phone the whole time by a female.

She went back to her house, police showed up, but the scammers were nowhere in sight.

Police are reminding you to be on alert.
