Chicopee Police Warn of a US Mail Scam

CHICOPEE, Mass. (WGGB)–Chicopee police are warning people of a scam received in the US mail saying you are a lottery winner.

It contains a check that appears to be authentic and says you are the second prize winner of the European, African, and USA Consumer sweepstakes. It also requests a processing fee.

Officer Michael Wilk says it was received by a Chicopee resident and brought to the station after suspicion. He reminds people if you did not buy a lottery ticket in a foreign country, you cannot win. He says be aware if you see misspelled details in the mail and ask before you do anything.

If you have any concerns please call the police department and look to their facebook page for more details.
