Red Sox’ Victorino Undergoes Season-Ending Back Surgery
BOSTON (WGGB) — The Red Sox have only had the services of outfielder Shane Victorino for 30 games in 2014 and now his season is officially over.
The Red Sox announced that Victorino had successful surgery on his back on Tuesday, which will render him out for the rest of the year.
The lumbar discectomy was done to repair disks in his back, but the team is not sure whether the problem was the root of his injuries that limited him earlier in the season.
Victorino was hitting .268 in his 133 appearances in 2014, hitting two homers and tallying 12 RBI.
The Red Sox expect that Victorino will be available for the start of spring training in 2015. His contract runs through the end of next season.
