SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WGGB) — A Springfield mother and her boyfriend have been arraigned on the charges involving a two year old girl.
Springfield Police Sgt. John Delaney says that about 10 p.m. Wednesday, detectives responded to a call of a child in danger at a home on Breckwood Circle.
When investigators arrived, they found the two year old with facial injuries and severe bruising.
Thursday afternoon in Springfield District Court, 28-year old Daniel Smith and 22-year-old Kaylene LaDouceur appeared before Judge William Boyle.
The couple is charged with assault and battery on a child with substantial injury. In addition, Smith was charged with resisting arrest, and two counts of assault and battery on a police officer.
Delaney adds that when the responding officer arrived, he observed facial injuries on the child and found the boyfriend, Daniel Smith, hiding in the attic.
Police say when EMTs arrived, they checked the child and found severe bruising in multiple areas.
The mother reportedly told investigators that the child hit her head on the table.
Both Smith and LaDouceur pleaded not guilty to the charges. Their case was continued to next week for a dangerousness hearing.
