First Medical Marijuana Certification Issued at Springfield Office
Springfield (WGGB) – Mura Bacon Erikson has been suffering from chronic pain since her mid twenties.
“I would literally come in at the end of the day and sit on the couch and cry. The pain was that extreme.” said Bacon-Erikson
Over the years she tried several medications to curb the pain, but found the side effects overwhelming. She says it was difficult to get through the day, until she found medical marijuana.
“My other options would be very heavy medications that would make me unable to work.”
On Friday The Wilbraham woman became the first patient to get her certification for medical marijuana at the newly opened MariMed Consults on Main Street in Springfield. After meeting with a doctor she was given a certificate allowing her to possess up to 10 ounces of marijuana. Without any dispensaries open yet, patients can either get the drug from a registered caregiver, or grow their own in a regulated location. Mura says she’s coming forward to help reduce the stigma often associated with use of the drug.
“I don’t want people to feel like they have to sneak around. It’s being used as a medication and we should be able to have it available to us as a medication.” said Bacon-Erikson
Patents are being asked to keep a copy of their certification with them at all times, and it must be renewed by a doctor every year.
