Family Displaced by Apartment Fire on State Street

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WGGB) — A family has been displaced following a fire on State Street Saturday morning.

Dennis Leger, aide to Springfield’s Fire Commissioner, says that around 8:20 Saturday morning, firefighters were called to an apartment fire at 653 State Street.

Crews arrived to find fire in a second floor apartment and they were able to get it under control.

Leger adds that investigators believe that an electric iron left on a bed was the cause of the fire.

Damage is estimated between $5,000 and $10,000.

No injuries were reported.
