Box Office: Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Delivers $65 Million Opening

Michael Bay’s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles reboot showed some serious turtle power at the box office, grossing an estimated $65 million in its opening weekend, Box Office Mojo reports.

Last week’s top film, Guardians of the Galaxy, dropped 56 percent to come in at No. 2 with $41.5 million. The new drama Into the Storm followed in third place, earning $18 million.

The best summer movies ever

At No. 4, the Oprah Winfrey-produced Hundred-Foot Journey grabbed $11.1 million. Lucy rounded out the top 5 with $9.3 million.

Step Up All In debuted to $6.6 million to nab sixth place. Hercules fell to No. 7 and earned $5.7 million.

Rounding out the top 10: Get On Up (No. 8, $5.01 million), Dawn of the Planet of the Apes (No. 9, $4.4 million) and Planes: Fire & Rescue (No. 10, $2.4 million).
