UMass Football Readies for 2014-15 Season

Umass

AMHERST, Ma (WGGB)—-College football is right around the corner and locally UMass will be taking the field under new head coach Mark Whipple.

Another big change this season for the Minutemen this season includes playing three of their six home games at the newly renovated McGuirk Stadium.

The last two seasons UMass home games have been played at Gillette Stadium in Foxboro.

“I think the timing is good,” said head coach Mark Whipple.  “We’ve always played well at McGuirk and for this area to get football back in Western Mass, and  major college football is really important.”

“I’ve got a lot of friends back home that want to see me play and a lot of fans from the area,” said Springfield native John Robinson-Woodgett. “I’m really happy to bring football back to Amherst and McGuirk stadium.”

“To be able to be back with all the fans and all our students, I feel like the trip to Gillette is very far and hard for the students to make it,” explained junior linebacker Jovan Santos-Knox.  “For us to be back home, it really feels like a football team now.”

Umass kicks off their season August 3o at Gillette but the first home game at McGuirk Stadium will be September 27 for UMass homecoming.
