2 in 5 Adults in U.S Develop Type 2 Diabetes
(WGGB) — A new study finds that 2 in every 5 adults in the United States develop Type 2 diabetes in their lifetime. The risk of this happening has risen up to 40% over the last 26 years.
Type 2 also accounts for 90 to 95% of all diabetes cases in the nation.
Diabetes’ prevalence has increased in recent years. In 2010, 25.8 million Americans had the condition, and this rose to 29.1 million by 2012. But researchers say the mortality rate in U.S. populations with and without diabetes has declined.
Doctors say that prevention strategies should include optimization of urban planning, food marketing policies, and work and school environments that allow people to make healthier lifestyle choices.
