Tackling the High Cost of Raising a Child

(WGGB) — Last night, we told you that the cost of raising a child is going up. The USDA data finds the average cost to raise a child up to the age of 18 is $245,000, and back-to-school time can be even more of a stress on parents — who spend an average of $100 per child on school supplies.

So how can you manage the costs associated with raising a child?

ABC40’s Chris Pisano sat dwon with David Griffin, Senior Vice President with The Dowd Agencies in Holyoke.

Griffin discusses the importance of planning ahead when you’re thinking about having children, what new or expecting parents can do, and some other ways to tackle costs.

Worth noting that the $245,000 per child is an average.

The cost of raising a child varies depending on where you live and as you might have guessed – it’s most expensive here in the Northeast….and the least expensive: the South.
