VIDEO: R.I. Little League Coach Gives Inspirational Speech Following Loss

Little League

(WGGB) — Following any hard fought game or match, players often want to hear words of encouragement, especially if a team goes away with a loss.

Dave Belisle, manager of the Cumberland, R.I. Americans, did just that with an impassioned speech following a game Monday.

Monday night, Cumberland was representing the New England region in the Little League World Series, against Chicago’s Jackie Robinson West Team from the Great Lakes region.

Cumberland would score five runs in the bottom of the third inning to take a 7-6 lead.

Chicago would rally back with two runs in the top of the fifth, to go ahead 8-7.

Cumberland couldn’t score in the bottom half of the fifth inning and would end up eliminated from tournament.

After the game, Belisle gathered his team on the field and told his players that “it’s been an incredible journey.”

Belisle would continue:

“The only reason why…okay…I’ll probably end up shedding a tear is because this is the last time I gonna end up coaching you guys, but I’m going to bring back with me, and the coaching staff will bring back, and you guys gonna bring back something, okay, that no other team can provide, and that’s pride. Pride. You gonna take that for the rest of your life what you provided to the town of Cumberland.

You had the whole place jumping, you had the whole state jumping, you had New England jumping, you had had ESPN jumping, because you want to know why? They like fighters. They like sportsmen. They like guys that don’t quit. They like guys who will play the game the right way.”
