Dog Found Starving in Springfield Continuing to Recover

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WGGB) — An update for you on a dog found starving in Springfield.

‘Sunflower’ the chihuahua continues to make some progress at the Thomas J. O’Connor Animal Control and Adoption Center.

Officials there say ‘Sunflower’ has gained almost three ounces and is still in critical condition.

‘Sunflower’ was found on Massasoit Street where some kids were playing with her.

“She is doing great in foster. She’s eating well. She’s using the bathroom great, but she still is so thin that we still don’t know for sure that her prognosis is going to be great. We’re very hopeful,” explains Dr. Lauren Atkins.

‘Sunflower’ is now on a re-feeding program as part of her treatment.

TJO is reminding members of the public to report any suspected animal abuse.
