Gov. Patrick: Market Basket Battle at ‘Critical Point’

BOSTON (AP) — Gov. Deval Patrick says he hopes to talk again to warring cousins whose battle over management of the Market Basket grocery store chain has sparked an employee walkout and customer boycott.

Patrick said he will likely speak to Arthur T. Demoulas and Arthur S. Demoulas Wednesday as negotiations reach a “critical point.”

The 71-store New England chain has lost tens of millions of dollars since warehouse workers walked off their jobs last month to protest the firing of Arthur T. Demoulas. He’s offered to buy out his cousin and other family members, but the two sides have yet to reach an agreement.

Patrick and N.H. Gov. Maggie Hassan met personally with the cousins last weekend.

The Massachusetts governor said after an event in Greenfield that “there’s still a sense that a resolution is getting closer.”
