In a brief press conference outside their New Hampshire home, John and Diane Foley recalled the work of their son and the work he was doing as a journalist.
“We’re very proud of Jim. He was a courageous, fearless journalist…very compassionate American. the best of America, and he always hoped that this — he would come home. That was his hope and he sustained all the others who were with him with that hope,” says Foley’s mother, Diane,
His father, John Foley, adds, “But before coming home, he wanted to support his fellow inmates…the one who would speak to the guards. He was the first in line. He was never a slacker. He was always the standard bearer…the stand-up guy, which is his passion. That’s what he wanted to do for others. That’s what he wanted to do for his fellow journalists. We also — we also appreciate the tremendous number of prayers we have received and Jimmy received throughout our community. Jimmy said in Libya, we’re very sure now he could feel the prayers. We think his strength came from God.”
