(WGGB) — The New England Patriots are worth more than all but one NFL team, according to the latest Forbes valuations.

The Dallas Cowboys were valued the highest of any team in the league at a staggering $3.2 billion. While the Patriots are well behind at $2.6 billion, it’s still good for second-best in the ever-growing NFL.

The Washington Redskins and New York Giants are also valued at more than $2 billion, with the Houston Texans rounding out the top 5 with $1.85 billion.

The newest rankings, released Wednesday, put two more NFL teams above a billion-dollar valuation, compared to their previous listing. 25 of the 32 NFL teams are now worth $1 billion or more, according to Forbes.

While the string of Super Bowl victories over the last decade and a half brought the Patriots to the top of the list, the Cowboys have grown in value without much on-field success over that span.

The Cowboys increased in value by 36% from last year, which correlates to the overall increase in team valuations, which is at an all-time high average value of $1.43 billion. However, what doesn’t correlate is the fact that Dallas hasn’t made the playoffs since 2009 and hasn’t won a Super Bowl since 1996.

Rounding out the bottom of the list were the Detroit Lions, Buffalo Bills, and St. Louis Rams, who were valued at a league-low of $930 million. Both the Rams and Bills have dealt with speculation that they might be the teams to be transferred to Los Angeles, the nation’s second-largest television market.

The Bills sit in the middle of an ownership transition, after the death of owner Ralph Wilson, Jr. Among the list of suitors is Buffalo Sabres owner Terrence Pegula, musician Bon Jovi, and real estate mogul Donald Trump. Most of the offers for the Bills that have been made public this summer have been less than $1 billion.

Meanwhile, the Patriots are having no such problem. They brought in $428 million in 2013 and are working with $147 million in operating income. Aside from their success, much of their value is thanks to Patriot Place, a shopping centre adjacent to Gillette Stadium with a variety of shops, attractions, and restaurants.

It’s now only a matter of weeks before we see how Forbes’ valuations translate on the field.
