Thomas J. O’Connor Hosts 6th Annual ‘Ride Like an Animal’

tjo drive SPRINGFIELD, Mass (WGGB) — For cycling enthusiasts who also have a soft spot for our furry friends, Thomas J O’Connor Animal Control and Adoption Center held a  benefit ride and party Saturday. The 6th annual ‘Ride like an animal poker run and party’  in Springfield was an event for both owners and dogs to have a little fun.

Hundreds showed up to enjoy the adoption center’s event – some of the dogs even rode with their owners on the bikes!

For TJO, the annual event plays a big part in helping them raise funds for rescued animals.

Pam Peebles the Director of TJO told ABC40,”With the animal shelters, people come into visit us and kind of see the finished product (animals) up for adoption. But the animals don’t usually come in ready to adopt.”

“It’s really an important event because it also raises awareness about who we are,” TJO’s Development Director Linda Thomas said.

The money raised will help TJO’s animals receive proper medical care and training, and a little aside for for toys to help keep them busy at the shelter. Last year the event raised $15,000.
