Arrest Warrant Issued After Retired Firefighter Attacks Commissioner

EAST LONGMEADOW, Mass. (WGGB) — An arrest warrant has been issued for Michael Richard, the retired Springfield firefighter accused of attacking Springfield Fire Commissioner Joseph Conant at his home Tuesday night.

East Longmeadow Police say the warrant against Richard includes charges of assault and battery and disorderly conduct.

Richard allegedly attacked Conant on his front lawn Tuesday, striking him several times before fleeing the scene.

Conant was treated and released from Baystate Medical Center Tuesday night.

ABC40 has learned that Richard checked himself in to a Veteran’s Affairs Hospital immediately following the incident, where he is undergoing treatment.
