Wing Memorial Hospital to Get New Name
PALMER, Mass. (WGGB) — As Wing Memorial Hospital moves to new ownership, the facility will be getting a new name.
Baystate Health Systems announced Wednesday that as of September 1, the Palmer-based hospital will be called Baystate Wing Hospital.
The move comes as the Springfield-based health system completes its acquisition of the hospital from UMass Memorial Health Care.
Baystate Health spokesperson Benjamin Craft says that the new name reflects the over 100 year history of Wing, as well as the facility’s new relationship with Baystate Health.
It was also announced Wednesday that Dr. Charles Cavagnaro III, the current President and CEO of Wing, will continue in that role, but on September 1, will also assume the position of President of Baystate Health’s Eastern Region.
That region is made up of Baystate Mary Lane, Baystate Wing, and the system’s affiliated medical centers and practices.
Dr. Shafeeq Ahmed will become Chief Operating Officer of Baystate Health’s Eastern Region, as well as continue in his current role as Chief Medical Officer at Baystate Mary Lane Hospital in Ware.
