MassDOT: Plan Ahead for Labor Day Travel
REGION (WGGB) — Motorists planning to hit the road this weekend are being urged to plan ahead.
MassDOT says that the heaviest traffic on the Mass. Turnpike is expected on the westbound side on Thursday and Friday, on the eastbound side on Monday afternoon and evening.
The number of toll transactions from the New York border to Weston on the Friday before Labor Day is usually among the top 10 busiest days of the year on the Pike.
The agency will also suspend all construction on major highways from 10 a.m. Friday through 5 a.m. Tuesday.
To help plan your trip across the state, MassDOT is suggesting that motorists check out their live traffic cameras to determine current conditions before hitting the road.
Once on the road, those with cellular phones can call 511 or those with smartphones can download the RideWise app for real-time updates on I-93, Route 3 along the South Shore, Route 6/Mid-Cape Highway, and portions of the Mass. Pike.
