Pablo Sandoval in Boston for Meeting with Red Sox
BOSTON (WGGB) — A high-value free agent made a visit to Boston on Monday to meet with the higher-ups with the Red Sox.
Free agent third baseman Pablo Sandoval, who spent the last his first 7 season with the San Francisco Giants, is being courted by the Red Sox brass.
However, the defending champion Giants are not giving up ont he man they call the “Panda.” Sandoval led the team to three World Series Titles in the last 5 years, including their 2014 victory over the Kansas City Royals.
Despite a slow start to the season, Sandoval played in all but 5 of the team’s games, mashed 16 home runs, drove in 73 runs, and hit for a .279 average.
Sandoval’s next deal is likely to mean big money, as the Giants, Red Sox, and other teams fight to bring him to town.
Red Sox GM Ben Cherington did not confirm or deny that the meetings were taking place, saying only that these meetings are an opportunity to see whether a player would be a good fit.
